Versatile Joy-Con controllers offer a wealth of surprising gameplay experiences. The two Joy-Con controllers can be used one in each hand or together as a single game controller with the Joy-Con grip. They can also be attached to the console in handheld mode, or shared with a friend to enjoy two-player multiplayer fun in supported titles. Each Joy-Con has its own full set of buttons and can be used as a standalone controller, and it is equipped with an accelerometer and a gyroscopic motion sensor, enabling independent left and right motion control.
The left Joy-Con also includes a Capture button that lets players take instant screenshots of their gameplay with a single click and share them with friends via social networks. The right Joy-Con includes an NFC touchpoint for interacting with amiibo figures as well as an IR motion camera capable of detecting the distance, shape, and movement of nearby objects in games specifically designed for these features. For example, this function can determine how far a player’s hand is and what shape it’s making.
Joy-Con controllers also feature advanced HD Rumble, which lets players feel a much more realistic vibration response in compatible games than ever before. The effect is so detailed that players can, for example, feel the vibration of individual ice cubes inside a glass that the Joy-Con is simulating. Thanks to HD Rumble, players can experience a new level of realism that cannot be achieved by sight and sound alone!
Up to eight controllers can be connected wirelessly via Bluetooth to a single Nintendo Switch console. This can be any combination of Joy-Con controllers and other controllers such as the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.
Joy-Con controllers can last up to 20 hours on a single charge and are recharged by reconnecting them to the Nintendo Switch console or by attaching them to the Nintendo Switch Charging Grip accessory.
