Sudden braking or a low-speed collision can throw an adult forward with tremendous force. In such situations, an incorrectly positioned seat belt can exert extreme pressure on the mother’s uterus and the unborn baby, potentially causing injury or miscarriage.

 Accident statistics confirm that an unborn baby can be seriously injured or killed when the seat belt is placed above or across the mother’s abdomen.

 By preventing the lap portion of the belt from riding up over the abdomen, the maternity belt keeps the lap belt in the safest, most comfortable position across the hips and pelvis. This significantly reduces the risk of injury and ensures the belt does not distract while driving.

 Tests carried out under ECE R-16 / ECE R-14 conditions at the MIRA Automotive Research and Crash Testing Facility showed that the maternity belt keeps the lap belt positioned over the pelvis during a collision, while the seat belt continues to perform its function.
