The design of the Sd.Kfz. 138 Marder III Ausf. M is based on the Panzer 38(t) Ausf. M chassis, with its engine positioned centrally. It is equipped with a 75mm German cannon and a capacity of 27 rounds. Unlike other vehicles, it did not have a fixed machine gun. It carried an MG 34 or MG 42 rifle as optional personal weaponry for the crew. The 'M' version, like other variants, did not have an overhead canopy for the crew compartment but featured a closed rear.
Approximately 975 units of this Marder III variant were produced between 1943-1944. Its official designation was Sd.Kfz.138, Panzerjäger 38(t) mit 7,5cm PaK40/3 Ausf. m.
