The Forest Badger, belonging to the Mustelidae family, is the largest of its kind in the Czech Republic, weighing between 10 to 20 kg and growing up to 85 cm in length. These nocturnal animals are known for their incredible burrowing skills, creating extensive tunnels that go as deep as five meters. Badgers are omnivores, feeding on insects, earthworms, small rodents, seeds, mushrooms, and occasionally carrion. They are solitary animals, often referred to as godfathers, uncles, loners, or hermits in folklore.

Interesting Facts:

  • Young badgers, usually 1-5 per litter, open their eyes after 3 weeks and are weaned after about 10 weeks. They become independent at 5 months old.
  • Badgers can live up to 15 years in the wild.
