The field hare is found almost worldwide, preferring lowlands and hilly areas in warm regions. Their body length ranges from 60 to 80 cm, with tails measuring 7 to 11 cm. Hares weigh between 3.5 to 7 kg. Their hearing is excellent, and they have a good sense of smell over short distances, although their eyesight is weak, detecting only movement. Hares are solitary animals; they move slowly while grazing, hopping, and quietly mumbling. When startled, they can sprint up to 60 km/h, make sharp turns, and leap up to 7 meters. Hares feed on agricultural crops, grasses, weeds, and young shoots of shrubs and trees, and they enjoy gnawing on tree bark. Female hares, known as 'does', give birth to 7 to 10 leverets per year, but only 2 to 4 typically survive due to various environmental factors like wet weather. Hares can live up to 12 years, but in the wild, few survive beyond three years.
