Shinzi Katoh, a celebrated Japanese designer, creator, painter, and writer, has a career spanning over 40 years, with fans across the globe admiring his cute and cheerful designs. Known particularly for his Zakka items (Japanese for items that enhance the home), Shinzi is also the author and illustrator of more than 25 books, including children's books and illustrated poetry for adults. In response to environmental concerns, he created the polar bear character Sorabear to educate and raise awareness about global warming. The Sorabear Foundation received the Japanese Minister of the Environment award in 2010 and the first Solar Energy Award in 2012. Recently, Shinzi has focused more on painting, holding exhibitions in museums and department stores throughout Japan. These exhibitions offer various fun workshops and educational opportunities, emphasizing children's involvement in art. Workshops where children paint and work alongside Shinzi on a large artwork have taken place at Colette Boutique in Paris, the Aichi Triennale in Nagoya, and museums in Himeji and Kasugai.
