How to choose toys for children with allergies

Allergies in children are becoming increasingly common nowadays, which can give parents a real headache. Statistics show that approximately one in three children in developed countries has some form of allergy. Skin irritation, respiratory difficulties, and digestive problems can significantly affect the quality of life of the whole family.

What do you need to know about allergies?

An allergy is an immune system reaction to substances commonly present in the environment, known as allergens. Normally, allergens are not harmful, but in allergic children the immune system overreacts. With repeated contact with an allergen, antibodies are produced, leading to histamine release. This then causes the familiar allergy symptoms.

Allergy symptoms in children can vary and include, in particular, itchy skin, redness, watery or itchy eyes. A runny nose, sneezing, coughing, or shortness of breath are also common. Typical signs also include tummy aches, diarrhea, or bloating. It is important to monitor symptoms and consult a pediatrician if needed.

In childhood allergies we most often encounter atopic eczema, food allergies, allergic rhinitis, asthma, and contact allergies to chemical substances. Some children may have problems with only one type of allergy, while others unfortunately have a combination of several allergic reactions at once.

Can toys cause allergies?

Yes, unfortunately they can. Some toys may contain substances that trigger or worsen allergic reactions. These can include chemicals, artificial dyes, latex, dust, or dust mites that settle in plush toys. If you buy toys in the European Union, you don't need to worry; products must meet strict standards-

Plush and textile toys pose the greatest risk, because dust mites and dust tend to settle in them.

Which materials are ideal for children with allergies?

Ideal hypoallergenic materials include natural wood, organic cotton, or bamboo. These materials are breathable, easy to maintain, and minimize the presence of allergens.

The term hypoallergenic means that a product minimizes the risk of an allergic reaction. However, it is by no means a 100% guarantee against allergy. Even hypoallergenic products require proper care.

We wish you a calm, happy childhood without allergies.
